Kinders In Charge: Building a Foundation of Student Ownership

Discover how the teacher of the 2020 NCDC Personalized Classroom of the Year structures personalized learning by unpacking the standards, setting goals, self evaluating individual progress, and celebrating mastery of standards. Learn about an "I Can" sticker system which allows students to track their own progress, set goals, and work towards those goals by choosing activities from "I Can" buckets until mastery is achieved. The system will demonstrate how 5/6 year-olds are able to be in charge of their learning. This presentation will show that if kindergarten students can jump on board the personalized learning adventure, students from every type of classroom can also. The information in this session can be applied to PreK-5th grade.
